Closing
by Kenneth P. Gurney
Night tucks you under the covers
of its darkness
and never turns the stars off.
When you ask Night to read you
a bedtime story, it takes out a book
of a billion bones.
When you ask Night for a glass of water
it shines the moon on a nearby pool
and the frogs echo your snores.
Night tucks you under the covers
of its darkness
as an owl wakes to guard your sleep.
