Short Plays – Where’d They Go?

Okay, if you’ve been with Poetry Breakfast over the years you know we like to add new things to the menu. And you know, it usually turns out not to be a good fit – wrong spice, too much of a contrasting flavor, etc. Then we take it off the menu.

That’s how it went with the short plays. We had some amazing submissions. And they included a lot of curse words, were not all rated pg-13 or under…In the end, it became clear that we’d have to go through a hundred short plays to find one or two that wouldn’t drastically divert from the comfort food you expect at Poetry Breakfast.

Where’d they go? They’re gone.

Poetry Submissions Wide Open

Now that we don’t need to wade through ten-page plays, we’ve made two tweaks to the poetry submissions. Well, the paid fast response submissions. Standard free submissions remain the same.

First, the cost of the fast response poetry submissions is now $3.50 for a single submission of up to 5 poems. That’s down from the $5.00 that it was previously.

Second, the fast paid response is now even faster – 3 days instead of 7.

We still have openings for July. Poems submitted using the fast 3-day response will have preference to the remaining July slots.

You can view the submission guidelines here.

Best of the Net

We’re currently making our selection for this year’s Best of the Net nominations. We’ll make the announcement of the nominees in the beginning of July.

(Our Pushcart nominations will come out in November.)

That’s all for now. Enjoy your summer (or winter depending on where you are in the world).
