Song of the Holy Woman
A poem by Ethel Mortenson Davis
Song of the Holy Woman
I awoke to the song
of a holy woman
beneath my window.
How beautiful her song,
I thought, but what is
she saying?
I rose to catch a glimpse
of her,
but I could not see her.
I ran to the other windows,
still hearing the song,
but she was not there.
Her song faded,
and I awoke
from the dream,
the dog on the floor
not stirring,
the song gone,
leaving an awakening.
