Care Loving
A poem by Sharon Waller Knutson

Care Loving

He brings her strawberries
and cream from the market
since the garden has gone
to weeds and the cow dried up.

Spoon feeds her as she sits
on the edge of the bed,
her silver hair streaming
over her nightgown.

Lifts her light body, lowers
her in the warm water
and washes her dry skin
with moisturizing body wash.

After she falls asleep,
he remembers soaking
in the tub and waltzing
skin to skin before the stroke.

He hears her moan and asks
if she’s okay and she smiles.
He wonders if she is having
the same memories.
