Beyond Repair
A poem by Vicki Iorio
Beyond Repair
Even though she
is gone, I keep
her collar, pet
the fur woven on
the sparkly pink band
collect her DNA on
fingertips that miss
her so badly—silly
to miss a cat this much
when I have lost humans,
but relationships— damaged
in flight, dent my sadness.
Where is the Office
of Relationship Repairs?
Cat and I purred
in tandem,
my heart
broken beyond repair.

Ah, I can so identify with your poem. It is so difficult to say goodbye to a beloved pet.

Vicki –
I read this with my first coffee and felt your loss, palpably, through your words. We want them forever, don’t we? But tis the ultimate price of love.
