Felt Meaning
A poem by John Ziegler
Felt Meaning
It may arise from a painting.
After words have spoken color, texture, contrast,
when there is still more.
A memory nudged, a childhood moment
that deer drinking from a mountain stream
not noting your silent approach.
A vision of grandmother,
her old, soft hands at rest upon her lap.
It pulses beneath what can be described,
even beneath the feel of God’s breath
across your eyes in a daydream,
beneath God’s breath close by in a night dream.
It is a capture of what has touched you
in an unguarded moment,
has awakened that same breath
within yourself.
