Aura
A poem by Patrick Leacock
Aura
A lone, pale figure,
Secluded by choice.
Sitting.
On a world-worn park bench.
A plaque.
A name of someone remembered.
Etched into weather-beaten metal,
Marking life’s next stage slumber.
I feel your aura.
Like a calming voice,
As I walk towards you.
Instinctively, I follow your gaze.
Looking.
Staring ahead at the sea of grass.
Green.
With generous specks of sun-shaped flowers
Waving in the breeze at you.
You.
Who has wisely taken time out
To sit and watch their involuntary, hypnotic dance.
Mother Nature’s fortress of solitude
This parkland
Laid bare
Before you.
And as I approach you,
I don’t see it…
But I can feel it.
An invisible,
Yet visible.
Physical,
Yet incorporeal
Peace.
Laced with contemplative flickers of life choices made before,
And to come.
That encounter changed my life.
Yet you will never know.
That the aura of your lone, pale figure,
Secluded.
Sitting by the sea of green,
Moved me so.
