Pelicans on the Bow
A poem by Josephine LoRe
Pelicans on the Bow
two pelicans flew down the wide boulevard
of the river, circled and returned
to the raised bar of sand & pebbles
& chased gulls away
two pelicans on the water
we looked away and you told me
of your solstice traditions
the equinoctial mandarins three—
one wish for myself
one for my family
one for humanity
and a third pelican arrived
