A Work in Progress
A poem by Arvilla Fee
A Work in Progress
break out the orange barrels,
the orange cones,
the flashing signs:
speed limit 45 mph;
get the excavators,
bulldozers,
pavers—
I’m going to need them all;
can’t really give a completion date,
this stretch of me
contains a juggernaut
of potholes,
erosion from too many cars
riding on my back;
I’m a bit broken, you see,
a little unsafe,
but once I’m paved,
you’ll barely see
the scars.

Enjoy this conceit. Funny and sincere. Nicely done.
