Ode To My Plates
From paper and styrofoam
to Mikasa and Melmac
I’ve owned you all
dined on you all
Curio cabinet held
pale blue Wedgewood
side by side with
Ming Dynasty depictions
Corning’s durable Corelle
a savior as kids grew up
Lenox enhanced my table
at Thanksgiving
Recently I’ve acquired
two new plates
which can’t be
washed, broken or displayed
Sealed with scarlet scars
they’re strong as steel
light as a feather
I won’t be eating from them
