Summer Days
A poem by Lois Perch Villemaire
Summer Days
Pink peonies surrounded
by buzzing honey bees
meant it was summer.
Smell of the wading pool
baking in the sun
as the green garden hose
snaked across the lawn
filling it up.
Staying outside
after dinner
with neighborhood friends,
echos of voices
shouting commands
for hide and seek,
lightening bugs blinking
street lights winking
like a signal
for us to go home.
