Let’s Meet in a Chagall Painting
A poem by Claudia M. Reder

Let’s Meet in a Chagall Painting

Let our bed rise
into a future
where we laugh freely,
where dusk is kiwi
and dragon fruit,

where sky tunes
its blue hue
to a violin chord,
where trees reseed
their delicate, brown selves.

Look, the lilacs rise
like bits of colored cloud,
like daybreak and hope,
brimming with attitude.
Cherry season lasts all year.

The wind scores
a melody. Hear the klezmers.
Let’s dance until the red rooster
crows and morning
shines on the cock’s comb.
